Mum and Dad

Jazakallah for the Islamic upbringing
Teaching me to refrain from sinning

Showing me right from wrong
Tarbiyyah provided all along

Saving me from doing misdeeds
Guiding me to increase good deeds

Instilling in me the desire to seek Allahs pleasure
Mum and Dad, what you did for me I cannot measure.

Oh, Allah, Look after my parents as they looked after me*
My Lord, make Jannah for them Your decree.
Ameen

*My Lord! Have mercy on them as they did care for me when I was little. (Quran, Al-Isra’ v. 24)

Waathilah (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “Four [types of people’s] du’a are accepted: The just leader, a man who prays for his absent brother, the prayer of the oppressed person and the one who prays for his parents.” (Kanz-ul-Ummaal 423)

Freemixing

I look around me
It is not pleasing to see

Brother and sisters casually freemixing
Without a care for their sinning

Lowly nafs they are obeying
Not thinking about their inevitable ending

Please step back and spare a thought
About the day when the Almighty will ask what have you brought?

Oh my fellow Muslim amend your way
Before you become the devils prey

Note: The above poem was written as a result of witnessing on a frequent basis the freemixing of our muslim sisters & brothers at college and university.  May Allah almighty save us from the evil sin of freemixing, ameen.

Try Your Best

When you know you are trying your best,
When to please your Maker you never rest.

Then excuse those who do not see the light,
In what you stand for and constantly fight.

Those who unjustly try to serve a punch,
The Almighty Alone protects from that bunch.

Those who say a lot but know you not,
Should be ashamed of what they’ve now got.

Waste not your time straightening their line,
Rather draw a perfect one & you’ll be fine.

But correct yourself if they are indeed right,
For that is righteousness in His Sight!

SubhaanAllah!

Valentines day

This is an old poem I wrote back in 2008 and I thought I would repost it here for the benefit of readers.

by Ahmed

Valentines day is here
its the same each year

we are hit in the pocket
people dash last minute to the supermarket

to buy their loved one a gift
so they can have a temporary lift

and then the day is gone
as quickly as the dawn

and its back to reality for all
til next years valentines call

good mood and emotions consigned to the past
all year they could never last

stop copying bill, freda and ted
why dont we instead do what Islam said

Your situation do assess
Read about how marriage in Islam is blessed

and follow the prophetic example
Sunnahs to follow, so ample

Realise that valentines is just a trick
simply another scheme to get rich quick!

Also read Valentines in Islam Poem.
Wasalam

What will you do?

What will you do if Izraael calls for you
And comes to take away your soul?
All those broken promises to be a better Muslim
Each day you stayed the same

Whiling away your days of youth
Sending to the back of your mind the truth
Putting off the order to pray
Instead your console games you play

Rather you should have come to pray
Offered your prayer in a beautiful way
Improved your character like the Prophet (pbuh) demonstrated
Rather than walking around all inflated

The day when Izraael comes you will realise
your times was wasted, spent most unwise
So change yourself now for the good
While you have time to do as you should

Learn more about the wonderful deen before your death
Put into practise all we can before your last breath!

Ahad Ahad!

Why shed these tears of sorrow?
Why shed these tears of grief?
Ya nafsy how soon you forget,
After trials come sweet relief

Why turn you from Ar-Rahman?
Why yearn for a listening friend?
Ya nafsy, do you not remember,
On ALLAH, you must depend?

Read you not those stories,
of the trials in days gone by,
Of the Sahabi beloved by Allah,
Who for Allah’s cause did strive?

Why loosen your hold upon him?
Why fling away, His outstretched Hand?
Ya nafsy, do you not remember,
Bilal’s sabr on the blazing sand?

“Ahad! Ahad!” He cried,
While his flesh did drip and burn.
“Ahad! Ahad!” He cried,
To Allah alone he turned.

Forget you the firmness of Hamza,
As the gleaming swords did fall?
With Sabr he turned to Allah,
as the qureish did slice and maul.

Why drown in salty teardrops?
How can you dare compare your pain?
To that of Yasir and Summayah,
As the lay tortured on the scorching plain?

Forget you the charring of Khabbab,
As on burning coals he lay?
Ya nafsy how meager your suffering,
Wherefore do you lose your way?

Why befriend you not Al-Wali?
Why not in Salat to Him complain?
Like Job who only to Allah,
Turned in all his grief and pain?

Forget you those trials in this life,
Cleanse your heart and make it clean?
Ya nafsy, why all this sadness?
Do you not wish your heart to gleam?

Be patient in all your hardships,
Allah hears your cries of woe.
So trust Him and His hikma,
For He knows best and you don’t know.

So tighten your hold upon him,
Lest He withdraw His outstretched Hand!
And remember the example of Bilal,
As he lay anchored on the blazing sand.

“Ahad! Ahad!” he cried,
While his flesh did drip and burn.
“Ahad! Ahad!” he cried,
To Allah alone he turned.

Allah

When things are down
And you are out of your mind
Remember just remember
Allah is The Kind.

When your life is in darkness
And nothing is right
Remember just remember
Through the darkness,
Allah is The Light.

When nothing makes sense
And your heading for demise
Remember just remember
It doesn’t make sense, but Allah is The Wise.

When times are troubled
And no one seems to care
Remember just remember
Allah won’t hurt you, He is The Fair.

When your heart is breaking
And your pain makes you fall
Remember just remember Allah Sees it all.

When you are weak
And the road seems long
Remember just remember
Seek strength from The Strong.

When life is a burden
And everything is unstable
Remember just remember
Allah is The Able.

When the way is cloudy
And there is no one by your side
Remember just remember
Allah is The Only Guide.

When no one wants to listen
Or is willing to lend an ear
Remember just remember
Allah is always ready to hear.

When you are poor and penniless
And you are stuck in a niche
Remember just remember
Allah is The Rich.

When you are down in your misery
And there is nowhere to run
Remember just remember
You can always run to The One.

And when your scars are hurting
And your heart is in fear
Remember just remember
Allah is really here.

Gossip

My name is gossip.
I have no respect for justice.
I maim without killing.
I break hearts and ruin lives.

I am cunning and malicious and gather strength with age.
The more I am quoted the more I am believed.
I flourish at every level of society.
My victims are helpless.

They cannot protect themselves against me because I have no face.
To track me down is impossible for you.
The harder you try, the more elusive I become.
I am nobody’s friend.

Once I tarnish a reputation, it is never the same.
I topple governments and wreck marriages.
I ruin careers and cause sleepless nights, heartache and indigestion.
I spawn suspicion and generate grief.

I make innocent people cry in their pillows.
Even my name hisses. I am called Gossip.
Office gossip. Shop gossip. Party gossip. Telephone gossip.
I make headlines and headaches.

Before you repeat a story ask yourself, is it true?
Is it fair? Is it necessary? If not— KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!
If you spend as much time praying as you do talking about others
behind their backs,
you would be further ahead Spiritually.

My Yearning

O Allah, my yearning for You is even more intense than constant thirst for cool water on a very hot day.

Reflections of My Beloved Prophet

by Sumaira Maghrabi
Source: Islamic Poetry

My role model, my revered prophet
The light of God’s eye
It is by mimicking your actions that
I strive to live and die

If I can just be a mere fraction
Of the person that you were
My bounties, knowledge and goodness
Will indeed commence to incur

No single unbeliever (black nor white)
Can aid in your defamation
It is through God’s eyes that you are
The key to human kind’s salvation

O Prophet, my beloved prophet
The Seal of all who came before you
Your kindness, love and compassion
Cannot ever be surpassed nor eschewed

They have tried to denounce you
Yet your name is inscribed in the throne of God
Indeed they’ll never know love will surpass hate
And their plan to vilify you is flawed

They can say whatever they want to say
They will unfortunately never know
The love and admiration for you that
Will ALWAYS and FOREVER continue to grow.
